“I Haven’t Worked Out in Years”
I came across an article online the other day discussing how to get back into shape after you haven’t worked out in years. I went ahead and took the article and broke it down into a few parts, making it into a few actionable questions and tips to get into shape after years of activity. This article, in addition to the video above, will go over the main points of the article, and give my take on them.
What Should You Do?
The article I found was split into multiple questions, being a means of getting you to think about your current fitness routine.
Do you need to check in with a doctor or physical therapist?
You might consider visiting a doctor if you have:
- Pain in joints
- New health diagnosis
- New medications
- Any concerns
What opportunities can you find in your current environment to strengthen your body?
Think about the ways you enjoy to move:
- Gyms
- Walking
- At home workouts
- Online training
What realistically fits in your schedule?
Ask yourself:
- When can I workout?
- When am I willing to workout?
- What issues might lead to schedule conflicts?
- How much is the bottom line of activity I can do?
What are you most curious to try?
Exercise is supposed to be fun. Consider:
- What exercises sound fun?
- What have you always wanted to do?
When and how can it happen?
Similar to the question about scheduling, ask yourself:
- How would a new routine look like in my day?
- What potential conflicts might ruin this new routine?
What will you do if you don’t like it or can’t get yourself to take action?
An important thing to wager is the negatives that will happen, if you don’t start a routine.
- How will this affect my energy in 10 years?
- Will I be happy with how my body looks if I don’t make a change?
- Will I regret not starting a routine back up?
