Lose Weight That Lasts
Many individuals struggle with achieving weight loss that lasts for a long period of time. Losing weight in general, is actually fairly doable for most. Finding a way to keep it off of your body, after you achieve the initial weight loss, is really the hard part of the game. This article, in addition to the video linked above, will briefly talk about why some individuals can keep weight off forever, while others struggle endlessly to do so.
What’s Going On?
If you are just starting your weight loss journey, chances are you are trying to figure out which of the best “diets” out there, will allow you to achieve weight loss fast. Should you go vegan? Low carb? Carnivore? The possibilities seem to be endless. The thing about all of these diets, is that they all can work to achieve weight loss. Any diet where you eliminate foods, or monitor portions of certain foods, will likely lead to a calorie deficit. In doing this weight loss is almost inevitable. The problem with many of these diets, is that they aren’t sustainable. They are usually very restrictive, leading people to start craving foods that they used to enjoy. Binging on said foods is not uncommon, bringing new weight loss goers back to square one, wondering what their next move should be. What should you do, then?
The Mindset Switch
The mindset switch that needs to take place to achieve lasting weight loss, comes down to how you look at dieting. When people pick a diet, or try to lose weight, they often think about the diet as something they just need to do until they become lean. What happens once you’ve gotten lean, though? Can you go back to the same diet you were eating before? Of course not. This is why thinking of your diet as something you should be able to sustain for the rest of your life, is a better way to look at it. After all, to achieve optimal health and a body that you are proud of, consistency is by far the name of the game. If you aren’t able to consistently follow your diet for a long period of time (years,) it might not be worth it to start. So feel free to try out different diets. But also be okay, having a small bit of cake. Or a little bit of your favorite casserole you know isn’t the best for you. At the end of the day, so long as your calories are under control, your weight will be untouched.
