PowerBlock Sport 24 Adjustable Dumbbells First Thoughts and Review

Powerblock Sport 24 Adjustable Dumbbells

Unboxing

I purchased the powerblock sport adjustable dumbbells off of Amazon, with prime two day shipping bringing it straight to my home in a timely fashion. The package came with no damages or issues, and was extremely easy to unbox and get started using. I really liked how they packed it with a large amount of bubble wrap and assistance to ensure that the weights would not be damaged.

Setup

The great news with the powerblock sport adjustable dumbbells is that there really is no setup required. The powerblock sport adjustable dumbbells use a pull pin system to keep the weights in place, but this doesn’t need to be setup. The weights are actually shipped ready to use the second you bring them out of the box. It was a pleasant surprise and something that I really appreciated that powerblock did.

Quality of Build

The powerblock sport adjustable dumbbells are honestly some of the best quality adjustable dumbbells I could have purchased. I actually have the 50 pound adjustable version as well, and they have both exceeded my expectations. The metal quality is great, and the pull pin system to keep the weights in line and steady is incredibly reliable. I am actually surprised at how well the pull pin holds, as I have done dumbbell snatches and other ballistic movements as well. The last thing to mention is the size of the handles. Sometimes, when you buy adjustable dumbbells, the handles are large and uncomfortable. The handles on the powerblock sport adjustable dumbbells are actually a little smaller than normal, making them extremely comfortable to grab and hold onto. The powerblock sport adjustable dumbbells go up to 24 pounds in total weight on each dumbbell, in 3 pound increments. This means that you can have a 3 pound dumbbell, 6 pound dumbbell, all the way up to 24 pounds!

Limitations

One of the biggest limitations with this product is that doing ballistic and fast movements might damage them to some degree. Although I have done dumbbell snatches and such, I don’t do this all the time. This is because I am not too comfortable with the jarring nature of these movements on the pull pin system. In addition to this, the dumbbells are sort of awkward to hold on to, when doing goblet squats, and other “different” types of movements where you are holding the dumbbell not by the handles. Of course, this is usually common with adjustable dumbbells in general, and something that isn’t exclusive to the powerblock sport adjustable dumbbells. Lastly, you can’t really “throw” the dumbbells down like you might at the gym. In addition to this likely ruining the pull pin system, there is no rubber on the dumbbell ends themselves. This is something to note, as some people don’t like the “metal” feel.”

Cost

At the time of writing this review, the powerblock sport adjustable dumbbells can be purchased on Amazon for only $199 with free shipping! With the total amount of weight actually giving you 216 pounds of dumbbell weight if you include all of the sets it covers, this brings the price of the set to just $1.06 a pound! Final Thoughts

These dumbbells are WELL worth the money, and are a great addition to anyones home gym. For the price, convenience of changing the weights, and the space they save, I can’t speak highly enough about them.
