Lap Swimming in the Quad Cities: Where do I sign up?
As someone who is involved in a variety of different sports, and physical fitness activities, I typically find myself either running outside, lifting weights at the gym, or something else land based. When I was having a conversation with some individuals I work with, recently, one of the favorite activities that “they used to do” was mentioned as swimming. I thought to myself, “wow” that’s a lot of people who enjoyed swimming at one point in their life. What changed? One of the things that I have come to realize is that having knowledge and access to appropriate physical activity mediums is one of the biggest barriers in participating in physical activity. If someone doesn’t know not only if there is a gym or fitness center near, and what they have, the chances of them following a health promoting behavior is slim to none. Because of this, I decided to do a little digging on some of the indoor swimming pools in the Quad Cities, that can be used for lap swimming to keep fit! The good news is that there are a few options. The bad news is that it’s a little “monopolized.” You’ll see what I mean in a second.
Indoor Lap Swimming Pools in the Quad Cities
Whether you like it or not, most of the indoor swimming pools in the Quad Cities, that I know of, are part of the YMCA. In fact, when doing my research, 5 lap swimming pools are run by the local YMCAs in the Quad Cities. These locations are listed below.
Bettendorf Family YMCA
The Bettendorf Family YMCA is located at 3800 Tanglefoot Lane, Bettendorf Iowa. The lap swimming pool is a large six lane lap swimming pool that can be used throughout the day at varied times. The North Family YMCA is located at 624 W. 53rd Street, Davenport, Iowa. This location is actually attached to the Davenport North High School. Richard R. Bittner Downtown Davenport YMCA
This location is fairly new in the grand scheme of the YMCA’s. This location is stationed at 630 E. 4th Street, Davenport, Iowa. North Scott Family YMCA
The North Scott Family YMCA is a new location that will show up at 104 S 3rd Avenue, Eldridge, IA. I currently do not have any information about their lap swimming pools, as it is not open at the time of writing the article. Two Rivers YMCA
The Two Rivers YMCA is located in 2040 53rd St, Moline, Illinois. Their lap pool is comprised of a 6 lane 25 yard pool. In addition to this, I also wanted to note, they actually have a therapy pool that is 92 degrees and can be used for a variety of classes and bounding in the water as well. YWCA Quad Cities
The YWCA Quad Cities lap swimming pool is located at 229 16th St. Rock Island, IL 61201, and has a wide variety of low impact classes, pool sports, and many other activities. For the full pool schedule visit the link here. Their phone number is 309-788-3479.
RIFAC Rock Island
The RIFAC is located at 4303 24th Street
