Can’t Bench Press The Bar? (try these 3 exercises)

Can’t Bench Press The Bar?

If you struggle to bench press the bar, there are several exercises you can try to improve your upper body strength and achieve your fitness goals. Incorporating these three exercises into your workout routine will help you build the necessary strength and technique to bench press the bar with confidence.

1. Dumbbell Bench Press

The dumbbell bench press is an excellent exercise to enhance your upper body pressing strength. Start with a pair of light dumbbells that you can comfortably lift for multiple repetitions. Lie back on a bench, holding the dumbbells at a 45-degree angle grip, or a neutral grip if you prefer a shoulder-friendly option. Press the weights overhead while keeping your elbows slightly tucked in. Gradually increase the weight as you build strength, and remember to avoid excessive flaring of the elbows to prevent shoulder strain.

2. Elevated Push-Ups

Elevated push-ups are a great bodyweight exercise that targets the same muscles as the bench press. Place your hands on a bench or raised platform and lower your body gently until your chest is close to the bench. Push back up to complete the repetition. If the exercise is too challenging, you can modify it by resting on your knees for additional support. Practicing this movement pattern helps you improve upper body strength and control.

3. Banded Chest Press

The banded chest press can be performed with a resistance band or cable machine. Attach the band or cable at chest level, and grasp it with one or both hands. Mimic the bench press movement by pressing the band or cable straight out in front of you, standing or sitting upright, focusing on a controlled and steady motion. This exercise is great for targeting muscle imbalances and reinforcing the bench press movement pattern.

By incorporating these three exercises into your fitness routine, you’ll develop the strength and control needed to successfully bench press the bar. Start with lighter weights and focus on proper form to gradually build up your strength and confidence. Over time, these exercises will help you reach your goal of bench pressing the bar with ease.
