Special Olympics Powerlifting
Powerlifting is becoming an incredibly popular sport among neurotypical individuals. Squat, bench, and deadlift have taken the nation by storm, allowing individuals to compete and lift the highest amount for each of these respective lifts. What most people don’t know, is that Special Olympics actually has powerlifting events that individuals with disabilities can compete in as well. These events span the strength of numerous different individuals of a variety of capabilities. My local Special Olympics Iowa team currently is training to compete in a bench and deadlift competition in the upcoming year. The video above shows some of the highlights of our FULL Special Olympics powerlifting practice for our Special Olympics Iowa team. You will notice individuals of ALL abilities showing their lifting capacity, and also sporting personalities you just can’t miss.
